Our new president elect // Barack Obama

November 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

barack-obama-is-supermanI get that this man has different morals than we conservatives do and that it is infuriating to see someone support abortion, but I am going to force my emotions to be stable on the fact that this was God’s plan for the U.S.

Sure there is the potential for disaster. There is this great chance every time a ‘human’ gets in commanding chair. Don’t forget we have seen presidents with similar beliefs fall and fail. I’m not saying that I have become passive and careless, I just feel comfortable that nothing is by accident. I also want to remain optimistic that great things can happen from strange places.

Apple’s New Mac Book and MBP

October 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have to be honest, I am a bit disappointed with the release. Not in a quality way, but whenever a great inspiring entity promises a huge product and delivers less than. This reminds me of when Coldplay claimed their new album would be their “ok computer” album, it was very disappointing. Apple said they were releasing something that would blow the competition away with this next release. Yes, they’ll always blow away microsoft, but we were hoping for something crazy with the hardware. I’ll write more once I really wrap my head around this release. The hardware looks solid and what was expected of an upgrade, but it didn’t blow away the enthusiasts.

Magic Bullet Looks

September 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Earlier I compared Apple’s Color against Magic Bullet’s Looks. In this post I’ll be showing some screen captures and getting deeper into ‘Looks’ interface and abilities. To reiterate what I said about ‘color’ vs ‘looks’, is that Magic Bullet provides us with a quick and easy to use color preset and editing environment. There isn’t a whole lot of speciality involved or required by ‘Looks’. It’s obvious to me that ‘Color’ is for the elite and the specialist. It’s for the large studio or the high profile projects. ‘Looks’ is for the cinematographers who have always wanted a ‘Photoshop’ for their clips. Lets look at the interface. I Couldn’t find anything else to use for an example so here is a the ‘before’ picture from the ‘set extensions‘ post I did a while back.

Just like any other plugin, look for Magic Bullet and select Looks. Click the “edit” button to get into the application. (more…)

John McCain picks Sarah Palin – eh?

Palin for Vice President

Palin for Vice President

I’m not going to pretend to know everything about this, but I will say I am surprised, and I don’t think I am the only one. McCain believes that she is the one “who can best help him shake up Washington”. I think he is being risky with this and will certainly work very well in his favor or totally blow the whole thing up. We’ll see pretty soon I suppose.

2008 Beijing Olympics – It’s over

August 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Closing Ceremony

Closing Ceremony: It's interesting to be a designer or work in film and see a production of this magnitude.

A total of 10,500 athletes were expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports, one event more than was on the schedule of the 2004 games. Over 90,000 people show up for the closing ceremony and the olympic torch is passed to London, the host of the 2012 Olympics. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was also in attendance while London’s mayor, Boris Johnson received the Olympic flag from Beijing Mayor Go Jinlong.

I think the the last 16 days allowed the world to learn more about China and it’s culture as well as exposing China to world. I hope that it has opened many new opportunities and eyes to what could be a new China one day. It’s gotta be such a crazy experience hosting the olympics, especially if you are close by. The traffic, the designs, the tourists and the opportunities. China spent over $40 billion on the whole deal. (more…)

Win a free Wacom Cintiq 21UX

Wacom Cintiq 21 on the right

Wacom Cintiq 21 on the right

You can enter once ever day to up your chances to win the Wacom Cintiq 21ux. I have been thinking about getting one of these tablets for a while. They are usually $1,999 which is a bit expensive, but I think worth it. I currently use a 9×12 Intous 3 Tablet. I would never try painting in photoshop without it. I think the possibilities are endless with direct interaction with your digital canvas on a screen. Makes so much more sense. This competition is being offered by SnapVillage, a source for royalty-free images. The drawing will be September 5. Anyway, enter in the competition and good luck. Click Here.

72 page long home page: this is a website winner to me

August 7, 2008 · 1 Comment

Crazy Site Award//AUG08. Seriously, I don’t want to offend their design/layout, but this is by far the craziest long home page i have ever seen. It is longer than probably the entire east coast’s newspaper home pages combined. Anyway, if you feel like race scrolling on something this morning, check out http://www.vinylbannersprinting.com/

We should race to see who can win a redesign for these folks. I think this would be the first time you don’t have to explain yourself to the client as to why their site is just not up to standards. Cheers
