Flood – Video Screenplay

I’m developing the ideas for the short film “flood”. I’d like to finish the screenplay and really get it as detailed as possible for our pitch to the executive/leader staff. I’ll be writing a screenplay, a shot list and drawing the storyboard. For now here is the screen play draft 1.0.

Flood

 

EXT. SKY MID DAY

Sky, dramatic almost stormy looking clouds.

Falling down quickly through clouds, begin to see a pipe ahead through a clearing. The pipe is as high and low as one could see, spanning from space to the ground.

 

 

EXT. DESERT BASE MID DAY

It’s extremely hot in the desert. you can see, although it’s far away and blurry, the pipe extend from the ground and rising in the sky. you can see that it curves at the base and shoots through the middle of this dead desert.

 

EXT SKY MID DAY

Falling along the pipe again faster and faster. 

 

EXT DESERT MID DAY

The desert is so dead and dry it’s all cracked and obvious there is no water or life anywhere nearby.

As the ground is spanned, a hand comes into view, along with a lifeless body. Eventually the one body flows into a few, than many lifeless/dead people laying on the desert ground.

(from an angle or aerial view) you see a married couple lying back to back, hands stretched out as if to reach each other, but instead hands are a fist and not touching.

after the couple, a small hut or covering emerges with a figure curled in a ball as if in defiance or protection and in hiding.

 

EXT PIPE AFTERNOON

after the curve at the base of the pipe is reached, you begin flying from a close aerial view forward. Slowly rotating to a horizontal view and lunging forward. far away in the distance is a large object in the path of the pipe. too far away to make out, it looks like an odd shape with dark features coming out from it.

 

EXT DESERT PEOPLE AFTERNOON

now further in the desert, deep in the heat and emptiness, there are more bodies in more desperate conditions. Men and women grasping (alcohol) bottles, objects of cruelty (weapons), etc… dead. A sea of motionless bodies lying on the ground. You can see the extreme heat raising off the ground. 

Turning to look along the bodies you can again see the pipe, it’s turning upwards into the heavens, and the object far away in the center of everything.

 

EXT PIPE AFTERNOON

flying along the pipe faster and faster arriving to a large rock. The rock is tall like a building and strong. There are doors, gates, and many faucet looking extremities that look to be leaking a steady flow of water. you can see the drops falling below to the only life in sight.

 

EXT DESERT AFTERNOON

Clumps of clay/desert and rock begin to shake and rattle due to a thundering rumble off in the distance.

you can see the hands of one of the lifeless bodies shake due to this thundering as well.

 

EXT ROCK/PIPE AFTERNOON

there is a period of time where the rock structure rattles and shakes to a point where it can’t hold back anymore.

Every vent, opening and crevice opens to it’s full extent releasing large amounts of exploding water and spray into the air and ground.

 

EXT DESERT/PPL AFTERNOON

a hand, a foot, a torso, a face all lifeless and still. With the sound of storms, thunder and rushing water in the distance, a drip falls on a hand. A short moment passes before you see a finger move, and muscles slowly move. A drip falls on a foot and the same slow reaction happens.

Slowly looking at a lifeless and closed face a drop falls on a his forehead and his eyes swing wide open. You can see rushing/approaching water in his eyes as you look closer. Stepping back you can see him begin to sit up/ stand up.

EXT SKY AFTERNOON

horizontal water drops flying in the thousands. time stops as you fly around a drop. 

 

EXT DESERT/PPL AFTERNOON 

Water is hitting on every body laying on the desert ground. you see movement, reaction… colorful agriculture forming/growing.

the couple grab hands, the man gets up and helps his wife to her feet and she hugs him.

a man lets go of his whisky bottle

a young girl releases a bottle of prescription drugs

a starving child opens his eyes, you see a foot stomp down, a basket of overflowing bread hit the floor (some spills from the drop) and the standing figure extends a hand, the kid grasps it and stands to their feet, you see the basket being picked up and they walk away

a teenager collects some water in their hands and then throws it onto a covered individual, they crawl out of their hiding.

EXT ROCK AFTERNOON

Rolling over the top of the rock with flowing water, you can see gathering crows of people that have approached the source of water, many holding hands but certainly a mass that cant easily be counted.

rolling by faces and figures looking at each other and forward, soaked, alive, grateful…
